Tsunamis
A Tsunami is formed when there are very strong winds out at sea. Another way a Tsunami can form is from an Earthquake out at sea. A tsunami can travel all the way across oceans and will keep going until they hit shore. The largest tsunami ever recorded was in 1939 in Lituya Bay, Alaska. The wave that hit was over 300 meters high. Since Lituya Bay was such a small city and at the time not many people had migrated to North America’s Arctic Circle, the death toll was a minuscule 49. If that tsunami hit Vancouver Island in the current day the death poll would be around tens of thousands of people.
